Up-post in center of horseshoe controls which way the ball exits the horseshoe or which drop target blocks the exit to "lock" the ball. Magnet over right inlane activated by extra flipper button on right side of cabinet. The captive ball rests on a switch and against one end of a long wireform mounted to the playfield at both ends (the "flooble crank") and which extends downfield for the ball in play to hit the end facing the player, transferring the ball's momentum through the wireform to the captive ball which leaves the switch for a few milliseconds, causing a score.

The portal with subway and teleporting ball effect is an illuminated larger hole (portal) in the back left of the playfield (within the house's garage). This hole is connected via a subway to a ball eject above the left flipper. A ball is staged at the bottom of this subway. When activated as part of game play, the garage has a strobe swirling lighting effect, and the ball in play is directed to the hole via a diverter. This swirling light is projected from the ceiling, onto a piece of clear plastic, creating a hovering/transparent "Pepper's ghost" effect. Immediately when entering the hole, the staged ball is ejected, making it appear that the ball has quickly teleported down the playfield. The previous ball in play is then used as the staged ball for the next time the portal is used.

Purple powder coated legs, side rails, hinges, speaker panel, and lockdown bar. Side rails surround the flipper buttons. The backglass is actual tempered glass with a direct print.

Another game that utilizes one or more pinballs positioned in a subway for staged retrieval is Williams' 1993 'Star Trek: The Next Generation'.

Spooky Pinball advertised a total quantity of 750 games would be made of the Standard and Blood Sucker Editions in whatever individual quantities that would be determined by customer orders. They advised us in February 2021 that everyone who had ordered a game within the first two days possible received a free interactive topper with the game, and the entire run sold out in four hours so all games (will) have toppers. Of the 750 sold, 36 of the Standard Edition and 714 of the Blood Sucker Edition are being made.

Factory upgrade for optional purchase:

Cabinet having direct printing (instead of decals) and covered in automotive clearcoat. The manufacturer referred to this upgrade as the "Butter cabinet".

Price when new: $7,520.00

Model Number: 50023
Common Abbreviations: STTNG, ST:TNG, STNG
MPU: Williams WPC (DCS)
Type: Solid State Electronic (SS) [?]

Theme: Licensed Theme - Outer Space
Specialty: Widebody [?]
Notable Features: Flippers (3), Pop bumpers (3), Ramps (3), 3-bank standup targets (2), Spinning target (1), Cellar holes (4, with one blocked by a drop target), Left outlane kickback. Catapult used for autoplunger (ball is launched through a spiral habitrail). 2-, 3-, 4-, or 6-ball multiball. Unlimited buy-in balls per player (operator option).

There are three cellar holes in the upper half of the playfield. They lead to three VUKs below the playfield that will kick the ball up to the left habitrail or to either of the two cannons on top of the slingshots. To reduce the time it would take for a ball to fall into a cellar hole, roll down under the playfield to a VUK, and resurface back into play, a patented below-the-playfield multiple ball delivery system was developed. In this system, other balls are already positioned below the playfield, one in each of the three VUKs. As soon as the playfield ball falls into a cellar hole, the corresponding VUK kicks its ball into play. The playfield ball then rolls down to remain in the newly-vacated VUK. Game play is continuous, and time has been saved.

Patent #5,350,174 [BELOW THE PLAYFIELD BALL DELIVERY SYSTEM FOR A PINBALL GAME] filed October 28, 1993. Granted September 27, 1994 to Ritchie et al. Assignee is Williams Electronic Games, Inc.

Toys: Two ball-firing cannons are on top of the slingshot bumpers. The Borg ship fires the locked ball at the flippers at the start of multiball.

Notes: This game was part of Williams/Midway's "SuperPin" line of widebody games.

Artist Greg Freres said at Chicago Expo 2017 that examples of this game may have plastics with the word "shields" misspelled as "sheilds". We do not know where on the game this mistake would be found and have no picture examples of it.

An earlier example of a game with two spiral habitrails is Chicago Vending Company's 1934 'Three Point'.
